Terms of Service

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using UCMT Labs, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you are using the platform on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

Description of Service

UCMT Labs is a cloud platform that discovers causal relationships in tabular data you upload, scores each relationship, and lets you explore the resulting causal graphs and test interventions on them. Depending on your plan it includes dataset storage, causal discovery runs, saved graphs and API access.

Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorized access. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You may not share account credentials or transfer your account to another party without our prior written consent.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to: use the platform for unlawful purposes; upload datasets containing personal information without the consent or legal basis required to do so; attempt to reverse-engineer the platform; circumvent usage limits or access controls; distribute malware or attack the service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Data Ownership

You retain all ownership rights to the data you upload. You grant us a limited license to process your data solely to provide the service to you. We do not claim ownership of your datasets, graphs or results.

Subscription and Billing

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices are shown in US dollars; taxes, where they apply, are shown before you pay. Before you buy a plan or change it, we show you a summary of the plan, the price, the renewal date, how to cancel and the refund rule that applies to you, together with our Refund and Cancellation Policy, and you accept them by signing. A copy of what you signed stays available in Billing > Your signed terms. If a payment fails, we may suspend access to paid features until it is paid.

Automatic Renewal and Price Changes

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the price then in force, until you cancel. We will give at least 30 days' notice of any price change for your plan, so you can cancel before it applies.

Changing Plans

An upgrade (a higher plan, or monthly to yearly billing) applies at once: a new billing period starts that day, and you pay the new price minus a credit for the unused time of your current plan, as calculated by Stripe. A downgrade (a lower plan, or yearly to monthly billing) applies at the end of the period you have paid for; until then you keep your current plan, and you can undo the change in Billing.

An upgrade ends the first-subscription money-back guarantee described below: after an upgrade, cancelling gives a refund for the unused days, not a full refund. The summary you sign before an upgrade says so.

Cancellation and Refunds

You can cancel at any time in Billing. Our Refund and Cancellation Policy is part of these terms and sets out how refunds work. In short:

  • First-subscription guarantee: if it is the first paid subscription for both you and your organization, you can cancel within the guarantee period stated in the policy and get back everything you paid.
  • After that: you can cancel now and get a refund for the unused days of the period you paid for, in proportion to what you paid; paid access then ends at once. Or you can turn off renewal, keep access until the end of the period, and receive no refund.
  • Free days are not refunded: free access (welcome access, campaign rewards, extensions of a paid period) is never part of a refund.
  • Review: some refund requests are checked by a person before the money is sent, for example when they look like a repeated guarantee claim.

If these terms and the Refund and Cancellation Policy differ on a refund or a cancellation, the policy applies.

Consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom

If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom (you buy for purposes outside your trade, business or profession), you have a legal right to withdraw from a subscription within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason. By signing the summary at checkout, you ask us to start the service at once, during the withdrawal period. If you then withdraw, you pay only for the service provided up to the time you tell us, in proportion to the full price, and we refund the rest within 14 days. Our refund rules above already give you at least this: a full refund within the guarantee period on a first subscription, and otherwise a refund for every unused day.

To withdraw, use "Cancel now with a refund" in Billing, or send us a clear statement that you withdraw through the contact form, giving your name, your account e-mail address and the date of purchase. You may use this text: "I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the following service: [plan], ordered on [date]. Name: [name]. Account e-mail: [e-mail]. Date: [date]."

Your Legal Rights

Nothing in these terms, the Refund and Cancellation Policy or the summary you sign limits a right you have under the consumer protection law that applies to you and that cannot be set aside by contract.

Records of Your Acceptance

When you sign the subscription terms, we keep the text you were shown, its fingerprint, the name you typed, the date and time, your browser details and a keyed one-way hash of your network address, as proof of what was agreed. These records are kept with our billing records, including after your account is deleted, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Referral Programme

Referrers are paid under the referral agreement shown to them when they join, which forms part of these terms for them. Commissions are earned month by month on the revenue a referred customer actually pays and keeps (tax excluded), are payable only after the refund window and a holding period, and are reduced when a payment is refunded or charged back. Self-referrals are not allowed.

Service Availability

We work to keep the platform available, but we do not currently offer an uptime commitment or service credits. Maintenance and incidents may interrupt the service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, UCMT Labs shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Termination

You may stop using the platform at any time, and you can delete your account yourself in Settings > Privacy. We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these terms. When an account is closed, access is revoked and data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
